Lessons Learned

Sales people now have to be technologists who must be comfortable with laptops, smart phones, tablets and their companies CRM (Customer Relationship Management) solution.

They will have to be modest web developers that can use a program like Microsoft Expressions Web to create web content to supplement what their company creates.

Sales pople going forward will need to be able to download material from their own companies and their suppliers, modify it for their customers and semi-automatically present the right content to the right customers regularly.

They will need to be able to get logistical information such as inventory and lead times on their products from their headquarter's MRP (Material Requirements Planning) system.

More information will be kept on the "CLOUD" so that it can be accessed from anywhere with any kind of device.  And IT people will be wrestling with how to keep the cloud info secure and sales people's devices from contaminatiing the info.

Microsoft will get back into the "CLOUD" game starting this year with their new Office 365 and their own smart phone.

Web based "Expert" systems are being developed to automate product selection and the sales people have to know how to use them.
